Meet Bruce Smith

Dr. Bruce A. Smith, President and CEO of Wycliffe Associates since 2000, has spent more than 30 years in international ministry. Believing in the power of the Word of God to transform lives, he has made it his lifelong goal to reach as many people as possible with the gospel through the ministry of Bible translation. Through his vision and leadership, hundreds of language groups around the world have received the tools to translate God’s Word into their heart language. Bruce and his wife Jan have two daughters, two sons-in-law, and are the proud grandparents of four grandsons.

Bruce’s Latest Book: Living Translation: Peace Children—The Sawi Story

The Sawi people of Indonesia knew a world of violence, death, and revenge. Tensions between tribal factions would boil over into brutal warfare that ended in bloodshed and cannibalism. The conflict continued until the tribes agreed to an ancient peace ritual, each tribe giving one of their young boys to the other tribe to raise as their own. This exchange ushered the Sawi people into a time of peace and reconciliation. While the first half of this story is outlined in the famous account Peace Child, as told by veteran missionary Don Richardson, the story did not end there.
